Talend is a newcomer to the market of ETL and Integration packages with one clear distinction from its main rivals...it's free.
Open Source Software is undoubtedly appealing to many businesses and particularly at the moment when IT departments are facing slashed budgets but no let up in demand. Talend is a credible alternative to the likes of Informatica's PowerCenter, IBM WebSphere DataStage, Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services and tools from Business Objects' owner SAP. With full wizard driven interface while still allowing underlying programmability it looks to be an excellent package so far although we've had limited opportunity to deploy it so far.
The project was given a further boost early in 2009 with the appointment of Bernard Liautaud, the founder, former chairman and chief executive of Business Objects on the board. That gives the project real weight and it is likely to be an interesting year for Talend.
